The vet is not sure the people who adopted them won't bring them back because of the litter box training problems. The adoption cage they had set up looked really nice and hopefully someone will adopt them soon. It is pretty sad at the house though... no meowing from upstairs and I miss them scurrying around. I am putting off cleaning out the bathroom because it is so sad to think of all the fun times we had up there and I'll most likely never see them again.... so I am not sure I am quite cut out for fostering. I think I grow far too attached... I would've kept them if having 4 cats was not a ridiculously crazy idea. Here are the last pictures I have of them. Understandable. Saying she gets attached to animals is a huge understatement (but since she is the only person who actually might read this i'll leave it at that).... I brought out an old cat toy- a little red ball- last week for the kittens to play with. I didn't think they would enjoy it because it didnt make noise and didn't roll very well or anything but they have had a blast with it. They toss it around and carry it in their mouths across the room... It is so cute! I think they reason they really enjoy it is because there is only one and the other kitten doesn't have it. Milo and Harley have also been getting better acquainted with my older cats but Kibby still hisses at them if they get too close. I am working on getting the kittens' info uploaded on petfinder so they can find a forever home before they get too big.

vet visit

So I just dropped the kittens off at the vet to be fixed and what not. fun times. I wasn't sure if I was going to get them back or if they were going to be kept there until they were adopted but luckily they said I can have them back for a bit. I am still trying to find someone to adopt them. It would cost like $80 (but getting them fixed is like $75 alone) and none of my college friends have that kind of money when there are "free" kittens all over the place... But this at least gives me a chance to clean their bathroom area up without them freaking out about a vacuum or wet swiffer. I wish I could put them back in that other empty bedroom but I really can't risk them peeing on the carpet again. They seem happy enough in the bathroom I guess... In other news we went to my aunt's farm a few weeks ago and my sister realized one of the cats there was declawed indicating that she was a pet and quite obviously can't fend for herself and find food in a barn with no claws. She convinced a shelter to take her and is now trying to convince me to foster her until she finds a home. So that might be coming up once I get these cute little kittens adopted. They were so cute at the vet- some lady had a pretty big dog and he came up to the cage and the kittens just looked at him and sniffed him. my other cats would be hissing like crazy but these guys are just so well behaved. Hope they aren't too scared at the vet. we'll see...

getting better

Life with Milo and Harly has been getting better. They haven't had any "accidents" in two days which is awesome and makes them a lot more fun to have. I have already started turning the "kttien room" into a game room so I guess they will have to share. I had friends over last night and they really enjoyed the kittens. I am hoping one of my friends will adopt them so I can be sure they are in a good home. Today I brought one of those carpeted cat towers into the bathroom for the kittens to play with and, though they were hesitant at first, they really had a great time playing in it. They were having so much fun and I wanted to leave it in there for them because the bathroom is so bare but I couldn't risk them using it as a toilet so I took it out when I left... Here is a video of them playing with it though. enjoy.

kitten nightmare

I had such high hopes for this blog.... but since I got the kittens I have had nothing but bad luck. Milo kept pooping all over the floor... so I bought a bigger litter box hoping it would be more appealing... then after a few days I realized if he was pooping outside the litter box
he was most likely peeing outside of it too... so he was moved into the bathroom. Then once I confirmed that he was in fact not using the litter box at all I started looking up tips online. My sister, a vet tech, said it was probably not a urinary tract infection as suggested online and little other help was available so I started looking into ways to train or retrain him. I tried moving the litter box to an area of the room he commonly used but he still refused it. I tried playing in the litter with a pen to make it seem fun and inviting (as suggested online) and unless I caught him mid act and moved him into it Milo wouldn't use it. As I got more and more frustrated I turned to Harley to keep me company (though I did put them together every day or so so they could play). Because I had put the small litter box that I originally had used in the bathroom with Milo so I would not upset Harley's habits I thought a larger one might help (he seemed to 'go' around it a lot). I bought another larger litter box and urine remover spray for the carpets and such. And since Milo would run through the mess in the bathroom and spread... stuff... all over I bought a wet swiffer to clean things up so I could use the bathroom as well. My sister suggested putting them in a cage when I was not around but I hated the idea of locking them up because they love running around.... Tonight, however, I came in the 'cat room' to watch House and keep Harley company since she seemed so lonely without her brother and and she went over to this sheet that was balled up that they often play in and pooped. right there in front of me. I checked the blanket and she had already pooped and peed in it earlier. So I put her in the bathroom with Milo. I wanted to make this site so people to vicariously have kittens all the time and share in my excitement and fun but so far this fostering thing has been anything but fun. I mean its super cute to watch kittens run around and awesome when they snuggle up with you but seriously- I cannot figure out what to do with these two.... all my other cats have just known to use the litter box. I think it's time to throw in the towel...

Milo and Harley

So I got my first foster kittens last night. They are wicked cute but quite a handful. Their names are Milo (white and orange) and Harley (dilute calico). My sister has been fostering them since they were only a few days old. They were supposed to be aborted but the vet tech decided they were too far along to just kill. My sister was told they wouldn't live but now, 7 weeks later, 2 of the 4 are perfectly fine and cute kittens. To get ready for the kittens I set up their own little room. I cleaned it and got rid of all the clutter so there is a lot of room to run around and so they won't get lost in it. I did leave a couch, a desk, a couple chairs, and some toys in here so my friends can cme up and enjoy the kittens too. I am not sure how long I will have Milo and Harley because they can be fixed and adopted out in a few days but they vet is setting up a display cage there and it might not be done for a while. I better get back to playing with the cats!

My Foster Kittens

Hello! My name is allie and I am hopefully going to start fostering kittens in the next couple weeks. I know I will be taking tons of pictures and videos of them doing all sorts of cute kitten stuff so I thought why not make a blog so other people can enjoy the cute little guys too! I plan on providing tips not only on fostering kittens but about having a cat in general. I want to share links and information adopting foster kittens too because every kitten deserves a loving home- and if they stay with me too long my other cats will get jealous! I hope you enjoy my blog!
